I have a chain because Lock Picking Lawyer recommends them and they are more versatile compared to U-locks, I just don't have many places I can lock my bike properly with that. I use a chain that I "made" myself. I just bought 2m of thick chain (coated steel so it won't rust, and it's cheaper than stainless) and a thick padlock for outside use.
