If the surface is too rough or is nicked or burred, the bullet can get stuck. However, it’s less apparent why the bolt face needs to be smooth.

Security 9 trigger locked up. I’ve got a Security 9 that the trigger locked up in today. For reference I’ve put about 600-625 rounds through it now. While at the range today I thought I had an FTF and went to eject the mag. Devil in the shade. Take the gun and Pull back the slide and start drying firing it. Then Push the slide forward while dry firing it a number of times. This should work. Also do the same procedure with a mag in. Keep trying this and it should release. This is a common issue. The First Round Fired is the most critical.

Aug 21, 2021 · Problems with Max 9. Today was the second time I was able to take my new Max 9 out to the range. The first time I did, the slide wasn't able to return to battery via slingshoting it. Also, just after firing a box of range rounds, the plastic takedown gate completely broke off causing the slide to get stuck back after almost every shot. If it is then check the internal locking set screw with the Ruger security key. it is brand new. After I was done looking around inside, I pulled the slide back to release the hold and it did not retract.
