Dual wield builds arent really considered bad, but they are more often than not, less optimal than two handers, feat dependant, stat hungry and gear dependant where other builds usually work better with less. Dual wield ranged xbows is considered better than longbow by many. Normally you can only use light weapons to dual wield. The best ones you'll get are 1d6 Scimitar/Shortsword (Finesse so Strength/Dex) or 1d6 Handaxes (Strength). With the feat, you can move up to 1d8 weapons like Longsword and Rapier (but if you took +2 to dex you get the same damage bonus).
