With the ones we had, the 366 was the better engine. 427's had more problems, took a couple out, replaced them with 366's. 427 is apparently basically the same engine, just bored out. The thinner cylinder walls had cracking issues at times.These engines are not as big as some pickup engines and we are asking them to do way more work. With the gearing that takes, the rpms are way up there. Mine runs at 3500 rpm at 60 mph. Current Rigs: 2006 8.1L GMC 3500 Allison 6 speed 4X4, Reg Cab longbed single rear wheel, 4.10 locker.The GMC 366 is a 6.0 liter, V8, long block engine. The bore is 4.0 mm and the stroke is 3.6 mm.
